Wednesday was slow so they let me in very casual say at the bar to watch NBA. Great service from the bartender, quick turn on sushi and good roll and app recommendations. I'll definitely be back! Happy hour 3-7 and all day Sunday? Helllll ya. Must try: sushi Happy hour was so good! Group of 5 has 5 drinks total, 3 appetizers and 5 rolls and got out of there for $15 each. Boom.
This was a perfect restaurant for our big group on this fun night! Great music and fun vibes for our group needs perfectly, and the cool room we got to ourselves was a big hit. We also had great quick service and were able to easily split checks across 12 people. We started with some sake bombs to celebrate the night. They have the disposable sake bomb cups, which I'm not too big a fan of, but definitely very efficient. We also had some yummy hearty crab rangoons- these ones were particularly fat and filled. I got a seaweed salad and rainbow roll for my entree, and it wasn't the best I've had but not terrible either. The fish was average. I also tried the crawfish roll, which was super fried and tasty- no raw stuff there for all you fake sushi lovers. Sushi axiom is definitely more of a fun, going out with friends restaurant, rather than being known for the fish quality. It did well in the fun aspect though, and fit our group's expectations for the night!
My check ins here have only been for Happy Hour, so I'm only reviewing them for what has become one of my favorite Happy Hour spots. They may not be the fanciest sushi place I've been to, but for consistently good quality, good customer service, and excellent Happy Hour prices - (at this time), nobody beats 'em. The sushi is always been fresh and flavorful. I've tried everything on the Happy Hour menu (except for the lamb chops) and I've been happy with all of it. Even the fried appetizers aren't heavy and greasy, yet light and cooked perfectly. The cocktail, wine, and beer HH prices are also some of the best in town. And you just can't beat a good place that does All Day HH on Sundays! Yaaaay, me! One of my friends from Desoto asks to head here every time she comes into town. I like consistency in a restaurant, and Sushi Axiom has provided that to date. Sometimes this place is packed (especially Fri, Sat, Sun) and sometimes it is totally dead on those same dates. I haven't figured that out. The music is always cranked up too much, but the restaurant has always been clean. You see a little bit of everyone in here - every age group (including kids who love sushi too), every ethnicity, and gender. That's nice for a DTown restaurant. So, why 4 and not 5 stars - apparently the menus got rained on, or got wet somehow b/c some of them smell moldy. Yup, you lose a star for "funky" menus :-D
Great crab puffs!! They're crispy wontons with creamy filling and spicy mayo for dipping and honestly I could have eaten a hundred of those and left happy (Keep the spicy mayo to eat with the sushi). The rolls are large and portioned generously here. Ordering one specialty roll for yourself will definitely fill you up. I opted for the sushi dinner, which gave me chef's choice of 8 nigiri (your standard salmon, yellowtail, tuna, etc. They also did salmon dusted with pepper and the same with the tuna, which I wasn't a huge fan of) plus a roll of spicy tuna. I was really full afterward. All in all, I was satisfied with my meal here and would come back! Pro tip: If the weather is nice, sit outdoors. When we were there a musician was performing (Johnny mason? Something mason) and it was pretty great!
